Dikhita Borah

By

Dikhita Borah hails from a small village called Hathi Gaon in North Guwahati, Assam. Dikhita and her two sisters have seen some strife in the family- their parents separated when DikhDIKHITA BORAH NLU ASSAMita was a child, and her father has not been heard from since 2009. Dikhita and her sisters live with their mother, who earns INR 5-6,000 each month from working in a private company. Her sister takes tuitions to contribute to the family’s income, the combined total of which is INR 8,000 per month.

Her past, and difficult financial situation have not deterred Dikhita’s focus and motivation in the least. She is dedicated to her goal of becoming an environmental lawyer, and to be a voice of her community. So committed is she to this vision that she would sail across the Brahmaputra river everyday (even on rainy days!) to attend her CLAT training sessions on the opposite bank with the IDIA Assam Chapter.

Both bright and exceptionally hard working, Dikhita performed extremely well in school and CLAT 2016, where she scored 109.75 marks, gaining admission into National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam in Guwahati. This remarkable young girl is no mere bookworm either- apart from studying, Dikhita enjoys dancing, sketching and reading books.
