IDIA Scholar makes it to 12th William C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot


Shivam is a third-year student at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (WBNUJS) and one of the most promising IDIA Scholars. Last year, he represented his University at the 24th Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, 2014. This year, he performed even better to secure 3rd rank in the moot team selection rounds at WBNUJS, which comprise three tough rounds of internal moots conducted over one and a half months.

It is our pleasure to share with you that Shivam will be representing WBNUJS at the 12th William C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot, scheduled from March 15, 2015 to March 22, 2015.


About the Moot

The Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot is an annual competition in Hong Kong. This Moot requires participants to interpret the texts of international commercial law in the light of different legal systems and to develop an expertise in advocating a position before an arbitral panel composed of arbitrators from different legal systems.

Last year,  over 750 students from 99 teams from 28 different countries participated and 340 lawyers and professors from across the world judged the competition.


Call for assistance

Since participation in such competitions provides international exposure, we request you to provide any assistance, especially financial, that would help Shivam obtain sponsorship. This would enable him to prepare well, and offer him an opportunity to do his University, the IDIA family and India proud at such an international forum.

Substantial expenditure will be incurred during the Moot in the form of expenses for registration for the competition, visa, flight tickets, and food and accommodation, which is estimated at Rs. 1,15,000.
