Md. Sarwar Ali

Sarwar Ali’s father, who runs a fast food stall, never expected that his younger son would be able to complete his schooling, given the poverty and lack of resources that challenged their everyday life. Sarwar’s elder brother dropped out of school and now works in a Pizza Hut outlet and the family’s combined income is only Rs 6,000 per month.

Originally from Sheikhpura district in Bihar, Sarwar has been living in Park Circus, an area predominantly considered a minority ghetto in Kolkata, ever since his father migrated to Kolkata looking for job opportunities in the city. He completed his schooling from Kolkata, with a commendable 84% score in his Board Examinations after being spotted by the IDIA Training team. His trainers describe Sarwar as a bright student on the quest for knowledge and an instinctive grasp of the finer points of law. Sarwar maintains that he has chosen to pursue law, because he has first-hand experienced the manner in which the poor and downtrodden are deprived of legal aid and wishes to provide legal services to those who cannot afford it.

After Sarwar cleared the CLAT examination and was offered a seat at the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University at Lucknow, there has been no looking back for this lad. He has been a devoted IDIA Scholar as he has accomplished the following in the past two years itself –

  1. Represented RMLNLU, Lucknow at the GNLU first edition debate, 2013 as an adjudicator.
  2. Participated in the Summer Grand Intra Debate Competition of RMLLU as an adjudicator. (Secured 12th Rank)

  10. Completed the Foreign Language course with German Language.
  11. Participated at the prestigious Surana and Surana International Technology Law Moot Court Competition 2015, and reached quarter finals. He bagged the 2nd best memorial award.

With an iron-clad determination to go all the way, RMLNLU is indeed a great beginning for someone with lofty goals and a positive outlook towards all setbacks life throws at him.
